Beneath the Wigs submitted to festivals worldwide

Beneath the Wigs is currently being submitted to a select number of GLBT-WXYZ film festivals worldwide.

The film has been submitted to a few festivals in the US and more will be added to the list as festival submissions open around the world.

“I’m really excited about the possibility of international audiences getting to hear the stories of Daniel, Brendan, and Adam,” says film maker Andy Boreham. “Their stories, I think, will resonate with people around the world, especially people who have men who do drag in their lives.”

If you’d like to see Beneath the Wigs in your area, contact Andy with details of your local film festival.

Film won’t screen as part of New Zealand’s Out Takes festival

Unfortunately Beneath the Wigs won’t be screening as part of Out Takes, New Zealand’s GLBT-WXYZ film festival which hits Auckland and Wellington soon.

The festival organisers were keen to screen the film but have found that it has already been viewed by many potential audience members via its screenings on BBC Knowledge.

“It’s a real shame that Out Takes audiences in Auckland and Wellington won’t be able to enjoy Beneath the Wigs on the big screen with ice cream and popcorn,” film maker Andy Boreham says.

Boreham says the festival have kept the film on file and there may be options for screenings later in the year.

First BBC Knowledge screening date!

The New Zealand TV premiere of Beneath the Wigs on BBC Knowledge will be Monday 3 December, 2012.

The film will screen for the first time on New Zealand television at 9:30pm on Monday 3 December, and will premiere on the channel in Australia some time next year.

“It’s pretty exciting that people will finally get to see our little film,” producer Andy Boreham says. “And even more so that it’s screening with such a renowned company”.

If you miss the film on December 3 you can see it again since it will be re-run; just check your TV listings.

We hope you catch the film and let us know what you thought!

Beneath the Wigs will premiere in New Zealand on BBC Knowledge (on SKY TV) on Monday 3 December at 9:30pm.

It’s in the can + private screening

Brendan, myself, and Daniel speaking before the film

It’s official: Beneath the Wigs is completed and the finished film has been shipped off to BBC Worldwide. We also held a private crew / family / friends screening at the Film Archive in Wellington on Friday evening.

It was so awesome watching the film on the big screen in a room of around 60 people — before this I’d only ever shown one person at a time. It definitely went down well if I do say so myself, and I received some insightful feedback from some of the guests.

The fact that a few people sitting around me were crying I also took as a good sign, after I checked with them that it wasn’t because the film was boring or abysmal (haha).

Now it’s just about sitting back and waiting for a TV screening date, which I’m told will be some time around December 2012. Of course I’ll announce that information here as soon as I know.

Thanks so much to Adam, Brendan and Daniel for sharing your stories — you guys are all amazing.

Beneath the Wigs trailer released

I’m excited to be able to upload a trailer for Beneath the Wigs, which will give you a bit of an insight into the men in the film and the stories they tell. Enjoy!

Cutting stories down is not easy, folks…

It was such a joy to put the stories of three wonderful Wellington men on film that I almost forgot how hard it was going to be choosing which stories would make it to the final film.

We recorded over six hours of footage interviewing our guys and I almost forgot I’d have to somehow cut a film together which is just a fraction of that time.

So I’ve spent the last few weeks, free from study after a number of intense exams, chipping away at Beneath the Wigs and whittling it down, slowly.

I’ve actually completely finished one of the guy’s stories, and have watched it over and over again. I must say it’s really enjoyable and I can’t wait to show the world.

But for now, I better get back to work…

Last interview in the can!

Adam on the monitor.

Kia ora people! Last night we filmed the last interview segment for Beneath the Wigs. Phew!

We did two days’ worth of filming for the interview segments with Adam DeHaar (aka Amanduh La Whore), Brendan Goudswaard (aka Ellie Kat), and Daniel Williams (aka Lady Trenyce).

The stories the guys had to share were funny, raw, and touching. They talked about sore feet, shaving, sex, suicide, and so much more.

We ended up with around six hours’ of footage that has to be whittled right down. That’s going to be a huge task, but it should be a lot of fun going through all of the guys’ stories in detail and deciding which will make the final cut.

Thanks to Adam, Brendan, and Daniel for being so honest and open, and to the crew (Gareth and Mikhail) for working so hard.
